Track Name: I Know It's Today
“There's a princess in a tower.”
Oh my gosh, that's just like me!
Poor Rapunzel needs a haircut,
But the witch won't set her free.
“She passes time by singing.”
Like someone else I know.
“As years go by she sits and waits.”
As years go by? Uh oh
“A torturous existence,”
I don't remember this part!
“She wishes she were dead?”
Skip ahead! Skip ahead!
“But in the end Rapunzel finds a millionaire
The prince is good at climbing
And braiding golden hair!”

So I know, he'll appear
Cause there are rules and there are strictures
I believe the storybooks I read by candlelight
My white knight, and his steed
Will look just like these pictures!
It won't be long now, I guarantee!
Day number: twenty three
I know its today!
There's a princess in a coma
Glad it’s her instead of me
Pretty maiden in a glass box
How I wonder does she pee? Blah blah blah, poison apple
Boring boring, evil queen
Filler filler, been there, read that!
Seven shorties on the scene
Skip ahead, skip ahead!
But in the end the princess wakes up with a start
The prince is good at kissing
And melting Snow White's heart!

So I know, he'll appear
And his armor will be blinding!
As shining as his perfect teeth and manly hose
He'll propose on one knee
And our pre-nup will be binding!
About time we set the wedding date!
Day number nine hundred and fifty eight
I know it's today. He'll show up today!

There's a princess! Any princess!
Take your pick, they're all like me!
Not exactly, I'm still waiting!
They're out living happily
Ever after better get here
I want love in seconds flat!
No one needs these middle bits
Oops, did I do that?

Cut the villains, cut the vamping
Cut this fairy tale
Cut the peril and the pitfalls
Cut the puppet and the whale!
Cut the monsters! Cut the curses!
Keep the intro! Cut the verses!
And the waiting! The waiting! The waiting! The waiting!
The waiting!

But I know, he'll appear
Though I seem a bit bipolar
And I'm a vandal now as well, hope he won't mind
I'm a find, I'm a catch
And a very gifted bowler!
It won't be long now, I guarantee!
Day number

Are you there god?
It's me Fiona!

Now I know, he'll appear
Cause there are rules and there are strictures
I believe the storybooks I read by candlelight
My white knight, my knight and his steed
Will look just like these pictures!
It won't be long now, I guarantee
Day number eight thousand, four hundred and, twenty three
I know it's today!
Track Name: L'Attente (The Waiting One)
Que blanchit l'hiver éternel;
Et toi qu'en ta couche inquiète
Jamais l'aube ne vit muette,
Monte, monte, vive alouette,
Vive alouette, monte au ciel!
Et maintenant, du haut de l'arbre,
Des flèches de la tour de marbre,
Du grand mont, du ciel enflammé,
A l'horizon, parmi la brume,
Voyez-vous flotter une plume,
Et courir un cheval qui fume,
Et revenir ma bien-aimée?

Climb, squirrel, climb into the tall oak tree,
On to the branch near to the skies
That bends and trembles like a reed.
Stork, faithful to ancient towers,
Oh, fly and soar swiftly
From the church to the citadel
From the high belfry to the wall turret.
Old, eagle, rise from your eyrie,
To the age-old mountain
Whitened by eternal winter.
And you, who from your restless sleep
Never in silence see the dawn,
Ascend, ascend, lively lark,
Lively lark ascend to the sky!
And now from the top of the tree,
From the spires of the marble tower,
From the great mountain, from the blazing sky,
On the horizon in the mist,
Do you see a plume swaying,
And a steaming horse galloping,
And my beloved returning?
Track Name: I Want Magic
Real! Who wants real?
I know I don't want it. I want magic!
Magic! Yes! That's what I want!
That's what I try to give to people.

I do misrepresent things.
I don't tell the truth.
But I tell what ought to be the truth.
What it ought to be.

Yes, magic. Magic's what I try to give to people.
If that's a sin,
If that is such a sin, then let me be... damned for it!
Don't turn on that light!

It'll all look so ugly in that light.
Why not see by candlelight... or moonlight, or by starlight?
They are bright enough to see by.
Sometimes too bright.
Track Name: Happily Ever After
They all live happily, happily, happily ever after.
The couple is happily leaving the chapel eternally tied.
As the curtain descends, there is nothing but loving and laughter.
When the fairy tale ends the heroine's always a bride.
Ella, the girl of the cinders did the wash and the walls and the winders.
But she landed a prince who was brawny and blue-eyed and blond.
Still, I honestly doubt that she could ever have done it
without that crazy lady with the wand.
Cinderella had outside help!
I have no one but me… Fairy godmother, godmother, godmother!
Where can you be? I haven't got a fairy godmother.
I haven't got a godmother. I have a mother…
a plain, ordinary woman!
Snow white was so pretty they tell us
that the queen was insulted and jealous
when the mirror declared that snow white was the fairest of all.
She was dumped on the border but was saved by some men who adored 'er;
Oh, I grant you, they were small.
But there were seven of them! Practically a regiment!
I'm alone in the night.
By myself, not a dwarf, not an elf, not a goblin in sight!
That girl had seven determined little men working day and night just for her!
Oh sure! The queen gave her a poisoned apple.
Even so she lived happily, happily, happily ever after!
A magical kiss counteracted the apple eventually…
Though I know I'm not clever I'll do what they tell me I hafta!
I want some happily ever after to happen to me!
Rapunzel had platinum tresses that were double the length of her dresses.
She was kept in a tower for years by a wicked old witch.
Then one night in despair down, she scrambled by letting her hair down.
That’s what I call quite a switch. I wonder? It’ll never do!
I’ll be finished before I begin and besides,
I don't wanna get out! I wanna get in!
I want to get into some happily, happily ever after.
I want to walk happily out of the chapel eternally tied.
For I know that I'll never live happily ever after 'til after I'm a bride!
And then I'll be happily happy. Yes, Happily happy!
And thoroughly satisfied!
Track Name: The Simple Joys of Maidenhood
Saint Genevieve, Saint Genevieve
It's Guinevere, remember me?
Saint Genevieve, Saint Genevieve
I'm over here beneath this tree!
You know how faithful and devout I am
You must admit I've always been a lamb
But Genevieve, Saint Genevieve
I won't obey you anymore
You've gone a bit too far
I won't be bid and bargained for
Like beads at a bazaar
Saint Genevieve, I've run away
Eluded them and fled
And from now on I intend to pray
To someone else instead!
Oh, Genevieve, Saint Genevieve
Where were you when my youth was sold?
Dear Genevieve, Sweet Genevieve
Shan't I be young before I'm old?

Where are the simple joys of maidenhood?
Where are all those adoring daring boys?
Where's the knight pining so for me
he leaps to death in woe for me?
Oh where are a maiden's simple joys?
Shan't I have the normal life a maiden should?
Shall I never be rescued in the wood?
Shall two knights never tilt for me
and let their blood be spilt for me?
Oh where are the simple joys of maidenhood?
Shall I not be on a pedestal,
Worshipped and competed for?
Not be carried off, or better st'll,
Cause a little war?
Where are the simple joys of maidenhood?
Are those sweet, gentle pleasures gone for good?
Shall a feud not begin for me?
Shall kith not kill their kin for me?
Oh where are the trivial joys?
Harmless, convivial joys?
Where are the simple joys of maidenhood?
Track Name: On the Steps of the Palace
He's a very smart Prince
He's a Prince who prepares
Knowing this time I'd run from him
He spread pitch on the stairs
I was caught unawares
And I thought: Well, he cares
This is more than just malice
Better stop and take stock
While you're standing here stuck
On the steps of the palace
You think, what do you want
You think, make a decision
Why not stay and be caught
You think, well it’s a thought
What would be his response?
But then what if he knew
Who you were when you know
That you’re not what he thinks
That he wants?
And then what if you are
What a Prince would envision?
Although how can you know
Who you are till you know
What you want, which you don't
So then which do you pick
Where you're safe, out of sight
And yourself, but where everything's wrong
Or where everything's right
But you know that you'll never belong?
And whichever you pick
Do it quick
'Cause you're starting to stick
To the steps of the palace
It's your first big decision
The choice isn't easy to make
To arrive at a ball
Is exciting and all
Once you're there, though, it's scary
And it's fun to deceive
When you know you can leave
But you have to be wary
There's a lot that's at stake
But you've stalled long enough
'Cause you're still standing stuck
In the stuff on the steps
Better run along home
And avoid the collision
Even though they don't care
You’ll be better of there
Where there's nothing to choose
So there's nothing to lose
So you pry up my shoes
Then from out of the blue
And without any guide
You know what your decision is
Which is not to decide
You’ll just leave him a clue
For example, a shoe
And then see what he'll do
Now it's he and not you
Who is stuck with a shoe
In a stew, in the goo
And you've learned something, too
Something you never knew
On the steps of the palace
Track Name: Greens, Greens
In the past when your mother was with child she developed an unusual appetite!
She took one look at my beautiful garden and told your father that what she wanted more than anything in the world was-
Greens Green and nothing but greens!
Parsley, Peppers, Cabbages, and Celery.
Asparagus and Watercress and Fiddle Fern and Lettuce.
He said "Alright!" But it wasn't quite cause I caught him in the autumn in my garden one night!
He was robbing me, Raping me. Rooting through my rutabaga, raiding my arugula,
ripping up the rampion my champion, my favorite!
I should have laid a spell on him right there!
Should have turned him into stone or a dog or chair...
But I let him have the rampion, I'd lots to spare. In return, however, I said: “ Fair is fair. You can let me have the baby that your wife will bear.... And we'll call it square.”
I thought I had been more than reasonable...but how was I to know what your father had also hidden in his pocket!
He had the beans. The special beans!
I let him go. I didn't know he'd stolen my beans! I was watching him crawl back over the wall and then BANG! CRASH! The lightning flash - and well that's another story, nevermind...
Anyway at last the big day came, I made my claim.
"Oh don't take away the baby!" They shrieked and screeched. But I did! And I hid her where she'll never be reached! Your father cried and your mother died.
And for extra measure, (I admit it was a pleasure) I said "Sorry I'm still not mollified"
and I laid a little spell on them. You too son! That your family tree will always be a barren one!
So...there's no more fuss and there's no more scenes and my garden thrives!
You should see my nectarines!
But I'm telling you the same I tell Kings and Queens
Don't ever never ever mess around with my greens! ESPECIALLY THE BEANS!
Track Name: Hexenlied (Witches' Song)
Die Schwalbe fliegt, Der Frühling siegt,
Und spendet uns Blumen zum Kranze!
Bald huschen wir, leis' aus der Tür,
Und fliegen zum prächtigen Tanze!
Ein schwarzer Bock, Ein Besenstock,
Die Ofengabel, der Wocken,
Reißt uns geschwind, Wie Blitz und Wind,
Durch sausende Lüfte zum Brocken!

Um Beelzebub tanzt unser Trupp
Und küßt ihm die kralligen Hände!
Ein Geisterschwarm faßt uns beim Arm
Und schwinget im Tanzen die Brände!
Und Beelzebub Verheißt dem Trupp
Der Tanzenden Gaben auf Gaben:
Sie sollen schön in Seide geh'n
Und Töpfe voll Goldes sich graben!

Ein Feuerdrach umflieget das Dach,
Und bringet uns Butter und Eier.
Die Nachbarn dann seh'n die Funken weh'n,
Und schlagen ein Kreuz vor dem Feuer.

Die Schwalbe fliegt, Der Frühling siegt,
Die Blumen erblühen zum Kranze.
Bald huschen wir leis aus der Tür,
Juch heisa zum prächtigen Tanze.
Track Name: The Wizard and I
Did that really just happen? Have I actually understood?
This weird quirk I've tried to suppress or hide
Is a talent that could help me meet the Wizard
If I make good. So I'll make good

When I meet the Wizard, Once I prove my worth,
And then I'll meet the Wizard. What I've waited for since...since birth!
And with all his Wizard wisdom, by my looks, he won't be blinded
Do you think the Wizard is dumb? Or, like Munchkins, so small-minded? No!
He'll say to me, "I see who you truly are - A girl on whom I can rely!"
And that's how we'll begin. The Wizard and I!

Once I'm with the Wizard my whole life will change
'Cuz once you're with the Wizard, no one thinks you're strange!
No father is not proud of you, no sister acts ashamed
And all of Oz has to love you when by the Wizard, you're acclaimed
And this gift or this curse, I have inside
Maybe at last, I'll know why
When we are hand in hand -The Wizard and I!

And one day, he'll say to me, "Elphaba, A girl who is so superior,
Shouldn't a girl who's so good inside have a matching exterior?
And since folks here to an absurd degree, seem fixated on your verdigris
Would it be all right by you, if I de-greenified you?"

And though of course, That's not important to me
"All right, why not?" I'll reply. Oh, what a pair we'll be! The Wizard and I;
Yes, what a pair we'll be
The Wizard and...

Unlimited...My future is unlimited
And I've just had a vision Almost like a prophecy
I know - it sounds truly crazy. And true, the vision's hazy
But I swear, someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz
That's all to do with me!

And I'll stand there with the Wizard. Feeling things I've never felt
And though I'd never show it, I'd be so happy, I could melt!
And so it will be For the rest of my life,
And I'll want nothing else till I die
Held in such high esteem. When people see me, they will scream
For half of Oz's favorite team; The Wizard And I!
Track Name: Witchcraft
Shades of old Lucretia Borgia!
There’s a devil in you tonight,
And although my heart adores ya,
My head says it ain’t right,
Right to let you make advances, oh no!
Under normal circumstances, I’d go but oh~

Those fingers in my hair
That sly come-hither stare
That strips my conscience bare
It's witchcraft

And I've got no defense for it
The heat is too intense for it
What good would common sense for it do?

'Cause it's witchcraft, wicked witchcraft
And although I know it's strictly taboo
When you arouse the need in me
My heart says, "yes, indeed" in me
Proceed with what you're leading me to

It's such an ancient pitch
But one that I wouldn't switch
'Cause there's no nicer witch than you

'Cause it's witchcraft, that crazy witchcraft
And although I know it's strictly taboo
When you arouse the need in me
My heart says, "yes, indeed" in me
Proceed with what you're leading me to

It's such an ancient pitch
But one that I'd never switch
'Cause there's no nicer witch than you
Track Name: That Old Black Magic
That old black magic has me in its spell
That old black magic that you weave so well
Those icy fingers up and down my spine
That same old witchcraft when your eyes meet mine
That same old tingle that I feel inside
And then the elevator starts it ride
And down and down I go
Round and round I go
Like a leaf caught in the tide
I should stay away, but what can I do
I hear your name and I'm a flame
A flame with such a burning desire
That only your kiss can put out the fire
For you're the lover I have waiting for
The mate that fate had me created for
And every time your lips meet mine
Darling, down and down I go
Round and round I go
In a spin, lovin' the spin I'm in
Under the old black magic called love!
Track Name: My White Knight
My white knight, not a Lancelot, nor an angel with wings.
Just someone to love me, who is not ashamed of a few nice things.
My white knight who knew what my heart would say if it only knew how.
Please, dear Venus, show me now.
All I want is a plain man
All I want is a modest man
A quiet man, a gentle man
A straightforward and honest man
To sit with me in a cottage somewhere in the state of Iowa.
And I would like him to be more interested in me than he is in himself.
And more interested in us than in me.
And if occasionally he'd ponder
what make Shakespeare and Beethoven great,
Him I could love till I die. Him I could love till I die.

My white knight, not a Lancelot, nor an angel with wings.
Just someone to love me, who is not ashamed of a few nice things.
My white knight, let me walk with him where others ride by
Walk and love him till I die, till I die.
Track Name: The Impossible Dream
To dream the impossible dream,
To fight the unbeatable foe,
To bear with unbearable sorrow,
To run where the brave dare not go.
To right the unrightable wrong,
To love pure and chaste from afar,
To try when your arms are too weary,
To reach the unreachable star.
This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far;
To fight for the right without question or pause,
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause.
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest.
And the world will be better for this:
That one man scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last ounce of courage,
To reach the unreachable star.
